ADDIS ABABA — The Horn of African countries’ unity and cooperation have posed greatest threats to some westerners particularly to special interest group, said a lecturer at Addis Ababa University (AAU).
AAU law lecturer Semeneh Kiros (PhD) has stated that nonsensical western pressure on Ethiopia is the result of a tension they developed.
Speaking to the Ethiopian Press Agency (EPA) Semeneh said since the accession of Abiy Ahmed (PhD) to power in Ethiopia, the Horn of African countries have been strengthening unity and cooperation among themselves. This, however, is seen as a source of threat to the conflict entrepreneurs in the western world.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s leadership style could elevate Ethiopia to the top within the shortest time possible, says the lecturer. This will be an example and motivation to African as a whole. But this is unfairly seen as a threat by some western countries, lecturer pinpointed.
As to Semeneh, Prime Minister Abiy came to premiership with skills and knowledge that helps strength sense of freedom and Africanism. His motherland Ethiopia is known for its victory against colonialism and igniting freedom struggle across the continent. Once again it is becoming a model for change in development and governance. This again doesn’t seem to be acceptable by the some western countries.
Ethiopia understands the value of cooperation and integration. Hence, it is keen to develop together with neighboring countries (Sudan, Kenya, Somalia, Djibouti, Eritrea and South Sudan). Ethiopia is using every means for this cause. For instance, with its strong relation with China and under belt and road initiative it is linking itself with its neighbors on road, railway and other transportation means and realizing economic integration.
The lecturer said this practice and the ambition that builds Africanism and diminishes western influence aren’t received happily by the west. As they did to strong Panafricanists and Change makers like Kwami Nkrumah and Thomas Sankara, the westerners are green-eyed by Prime Minister Abiy’s achievements for African Unity and development.
The lecturer expressed his anger over the West for its silence in the face of grave human right violation during TPLF rule.
