Ethiopia and Uganda have reaffirmed that they will continue to strengthen their cooperation in regional security and peace issues.
Today in Addis Ababa, senior officials of the Ethiopian National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS) and Uganda’s External Security Organization (ESO) reviewed the cooperation activities they are carrying out together on regional security and peace issues.
It is to be recalled that Ethiopia’s NISS and Uganda’s ESO have previously reached a bilateral agreement to work in cooperation in combating terrorism, cross-border crimes, illegal militants and human trafficking, which are threats to security and safety in the East African region.
In today’s discussion, Deputy Director General for External Intelligence Sector at NISS, Mr. Tazer Gebre-Egziabher, and Director-General of ESO, Joseph Okello, reviewed the results obtained by implementing this agreement and the issues that need to be further strengthened.
Director General Tazer appreciated the determination of ESO to strengthen the partnership it started with NISS in terms of information exchange and security.
For his part, Joseph Okello acknowledged that Ethiopia is working to ensure lasting peace in neighboring countries and the region.
He reaffirmed that both sides will continue to strengthen the cooperation that they have started to create a comfortable compromise for lasting peace by tracking and identifying cross-border crimes, human trafficking, terrorism and related issues.
Note that the two counterpart institutions have signed a memorandum of understanding that enables them to work together two years ago.
