Addis Ababa January 9/2025 (ENA)—The Addis Ababa Culture, Arts and Tourism Bureau revealed that over five million tourists, both local and international, flocked to the capital’s attractions in just the past six months of this fiscal year.
This surge in visitors has generated impressive revenue of more than 96 billion birr for the city.
As the capital of Africa and a hub for international diplomacy, Addis Ababa boasts a wealth of historical and cultural sites that are a must-visit.
A conducive environment has been created due to the measures taken to enhance the tourism sector following the reform in recent years.
In an exclusive interview with ENA, the deputy head of the bureau, Hunde Kebede highlighted that the city administration’s commitment to enhancing tourist experiences by expanding attractions and ensuring a welcoming atmosphere for all visitors.
He noted that the ongoing development of corridors and tourist sites has significantly increased their appeal to both locals and foreigners alike. Furthermore, he emphasized that these development initiatives not only beautify the city but also play a crucial role in boosting the tourism sector.
“In the last six months, Addis Ababa has become a vibrant hub for numerous religious and cultural events, drawing in a significant number of local visitors. During this time, the city welcomed an impressive 4.6 million domestic tourists. Additionally, over half a million international visitors explored the diverse attractions that Addis Ababa has to offer.”
Hunde emphasized that the development of tourist destinations in the capital has significantly boosted the influx of both local and international visitors.
Thanks to the government’s focus on enhancing the tourism industry, the sector has generated over 96 billion birr from tourists in just the past six months, he added.
“In general, 96 billion birr has been injected into the economy of our city in the last six months. Due to the government’s attention to the sector, the flow of tourists has been increasing over time.
